History of the creation of the Musec
Start of construction work
In 2025, after more than three years of work and planning, we are delighted to announce that construction work on the Museum of Writing is set to begin with the removal of the building’s roof.
We would like to express our deeply felt gratitude to the departmental council for its ongoing financial support. Special thanks go to our councillors, Ms Nathalie Perez-Leroux and Mr Louis Reynier, for their commitment and support throughout this project.
Stay tuned to follow the progress of the work and the next steps of this exciting adventure.

The Birth of Writing
MUSEC: Writing in History and Culture
Since the emergence of the first writing systems over 5,000 years ago in Mesopotamia, human societies have developed numerous forms of writing to communicate, record and transmit information. Egyptian hieroglyphs, Chinese characters, Mesopotamian cuneiform and the Greek and Latin alphabets are just some of the most famous writing systems.

A talisman that certainly has plenty of character
Our warmest thanks to Mr Jean-Paul ITIÉ and his team at the SOLEIL Synchrotron, who were able quickly to apply their scientific knowledge and expertise in their high-tech facility to explore the secrets of the talisman, the subject of an exemplary multidisciplinary collaboration (high technology, physics, historical sciences, archaeology, philology).
Come and uncover its deepest secrets.
Tours and workshops
A cultural project at the heart of storytelling
In addition to its cultural mission, the Village Museum also plays a vital educational role. A programme of activities specifically designed for schoolchildren and students will be introduced. Through this initiative, young people will be able to explore the exhibits and collections in a fun and interactive way.
The members of the educational team are on hand to listen to visitors, answer their questions and spark their interest in history, art and science.
In addition, the Musec will organise one or two particularly notable and popular annual events. These occasions provide the perfect opportunity to discover new artists, meet fellow enthusiasts and exchange ideas. The Village Museum is therefore not only a place for the conservation and exhibition of works, but also a genuine vehicle for education and knowledge-sharing, and an interpretation centre.
Various workshops will be organised, such as calligraphy workshops, introductory sessions to scripts from around the world, bookbinding and many more, as well as literary talks.

The Musec Committees
The Museum of World Writing relies on two committees that are essential to its development:
– a Scientific Committee, comprising researchers and specialists in world writing
– a Steering Committee, bringing together the project’s institutional and cultural stakeholders
Together, they ensure the quality, rigour and vision of the MusEc, at the crossroads of research, culture and heritage.
